Will you be transporting Bio-fuel blends in the near future?
Are you uncertain about the need to upgrade your ODME?
Rules for carrying Bio-fuel blends as defined by MEPC.1/Circ.761 entered into force on 1 September 2011.
The substances concerned are:
• blends of Diesel/gas oil (75% or more)
• FAME (Fatty Acid Methyl Esters)
• Vegetable oil
• Alkanes, linear and branched
• blends of Gasoline (75% or more)
• Ethyl alcohol.
These substances will be subject to MARPOL Annex I, which means the Oil Discharge Monitoring Equipment (ODME) has to be approved accordingly.

Without the ODME complying with the new Guidelines, a vessel carrying these substances can operate for a transition period only, provided that tank residues and all tank washings are pumped ashore.
However, by 1 January 2016 the ODME must comply with the new Guidelines to be allowed to carry these substances.
Brannstrom’s newest ODME model CleanTrack 1000B is type approved according to MEPC.108(49) as amended by Resolution MEPC.240(65) and certified for all IMO specified Bio-fuel blends defined in MEPC.1/Circ.761 as revised.
For the older ODME model CleanTrack 1000 there is an approved Bio-fuel blend upgrading package making it comply with MEPC.1/Circ.761 and MEPC.240(65).
Other ODME installations can also be upgraded for Bio-fuel blend compliance using a variety of hardware depending on make & model of the old ODME.
