Ravebo was contacted by a shipping company because one of their vessels had problems with the Kangrim IGG installation.
According to the vessels reports the starting up procedure was difficult and the oxygen content was not reliably steady. This sounded like a job for our IGG specialist.
The vessel was at anchorage waiting to call at Antwerp so we were able to arrange the service very quickly, to satisfaction of the crew and owners since the IGG is critical ship’s equipment.Once our engineer attended the vessel he performed a complete IGG check and he indeed found some issues; the fuel I/P converter was “sluggish” and replaced by a new one. The IGG capacity valve wasn’t moving at all or was extremely slow moving from open to close. Also there was found too much oil in the air supply, which would have been a contributory reason for the difficult starting up of the IGG plant.

The engineer exchanged the positioners on the vent valve and the IGG capacity valve. After which he made the adjustments so that they were set to the correct position. The faulty I/P converter was replaced as well. The engineer left an IGG log sheet on board for recording vital data during operation by the crew. In this way, any failures or irregularities can be recognized.
The unit was back to normal operation and both the crew and the vessel managers/owners were very satisfied with the quick actions we took for them. Besides performing the actual calibration and/or repairs, our engineers are regularly assisting the crew on board on how to do a proper start-up, how to safely use the installation and how to properly shut it down. Also maintenance tips or maker recommendations are informed to the crew where required.
